Explosion-proof emergency lighting is designed for locations where reliable emergency illumination is required together with equipment suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Where gas, vapour or combustible dust may create a hazardous atmosphere, the selected luminaire must be suitable for the specific conditions of the installation.

Depending on the application, different solutions are available for escape routes, emergency exits and open-area emergency lighting. Important selection criteria include the ATEX classification, hazardous-area zone, gas or dust group, temperature class, IP rating, light output and required emergency duration.

Marine and offshore applications may also require additional technical specifications or certifications. Not every explosion-protected luminaire is suitable for every hazardous environment, so the certification and technical characteristics must correspond with the relevant zone, installation and operating conditions.
