With central battery emergency lighting, the connected emergency luminaires are supplied from one central battery system, commonly referred to as a CBS. Instead of using an individual emergency battery in every luminaire, the emergency power supply is managed from a central location. This provides a structured solution for supplying, monitoring and maintaining larger emergency lighting installations.

Central battery systems are particularly suitable for buildings and installations with a large number of emergency luminaires. Different circuits can be supplied from the central unit, with compatible emergency luminaires connected to each circuit. The current ACIDUS range includes 230V and 24VDC central battery systems, multi-circuit configurations and addressable solutions, as well as Ethernet expansion functionality.

A key advantage of a central battery system for emergency lighting is that the emergency power source is located centrally. Individual luminaires therefore do not necessarily require their own emergency battery, while testing and monitoring can be organised from the central system.

When selecting a CBS, important considerations include the required system capacity, number of circuits, output voltage, required emergency duration and the desired monitoring and communication options. The connected emergency luminaires must also be compatible with the selected central battery system.
